I started building my model railway two years ago, not styling it on any particular era. I’d like to say it’s near completion but it’s not. I’ve been told by fellow enthusiasts that it’s never completed, especially if you have the space to keep building on.
I’m at a stage which I describe as more of a draft with tracks laid but not tacked down and scenery modelled but not fixed. I’ve lots of ideas but still looking for inspiration from railway magazines to decide upon a final layout design.
I bought modern Diesel engines along with some lovely steam engines. Watching the steam engines running along the tracks brings me right back to my youth. Now it’s the turn of my grandchildren to relish in the excitement of a steam engine rolling out of the station, giving them the same love and appreciation for a bygone era, where my father held me up to see over a railway bridge as the train passed below.
